Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed Dog

BeeBee the Dog needs a home

Out of the Woods is proud to introduce BeeBee, a solid black shepherd mix dog who is around 3 years old.

BeeBee came to us after living for a long time in a park near the airport in Little Rock. She was fearful of everyone, but she was also hungry. A kind woman in the area kept going out there day after day to feed BeeBee and one day BeeBee came up to her and instead of eating, she just laid down in the woman's lap to be petted. This is one of the only dogs we have ever known that would rather be petted than fed!

BeeBee does, however, have some issues, but it's nothing that she cannot overcome. She is fearful of new people and new situations. Even though she's lived in her foster home for several weeks, when her foster mom walks toward her, BeeBee falls to the ground as if she might be hit by her foster mom. :( Ignoring her gets her up and coming for petting. One pat on the head and she is putty in your hand. She does want to jump up on you, but she is fairly gentle when doing this. She just cannot seem to get close enough to her human.

BeeBee is good in a crate however, she does not need one in her foster home. She seems to be house trained even though we did not work with her on this, and is not destructive. BeeBee does like to play with squeaky toys, but doesn't tear them up. She also knows how to use a doggie door.

BeeBee has not been leash trained, however, that is something that we are going to start working in the next few days. She is also not fully vetted yet due to her fearfulness, but we have had her heartworm tested and she is low positive. She currently is on the slow kill treatment to rid her of the heartworms and the medication will be provided to the adopter at the expense to OOTW.

BeeBee is good with her foster siblings that were in the home when she arrived, all small terrier dogs, however, when a new dog comes into the foster home she is aggressive with the new dog. Jealousy? "This is MY home!, syndrome? We aren't sure. She would probably be fine with dogs that are currently in your home, but she might balk if you brought new ones in after her arrival.

BeeBee is also a good watch dog and has a keen eye for anything that is amiss. She can also climb over the fence at the foster home, but we are not sure if she could climb a chain link fence or not. She doesn't go anywhere, usually just to the front yard, but still we don't want her getting out. ;) This girl just needs a chance to become the great dog we know she can be and find a home that will give her a little time to settle in and blossom. Is it yours?

BeeBee's vetting will be finalized November 15 (spay, microchip, rabies shot). Her adoption fee is $150.
